If you go to page 2 of this forum, you can see my thread "Speeditwin,Speedifour owners manuals wanted". Garry Spencer sent me a parts and operating manual for them. It could be useful.

March 2, 2016 at 12:05 am #32754Thanks again. I did see the info put out on you thread. I actually saw that before I had mine running, very informative.
Now I am still having issues that I hope someone who has a bit on knowledge on these engine can guide me in the right direction.
My Speeditwin will not start with the hood on it. It wants to and it will sputter and try, but it will not go.
When I remove the hood it will start, and then I can see the gas really coming out of the throat. I have a video I will see how to upload. Basically if I hold my hand in the front of the throat and count to 3, gas is running off of my off the palm of my hand…no BS. Any idea what could cause this much gas to be expelled from the throat while running? I have tried a bunch of different setting on both the High side jet, and low side jets. This gas still expels out big time.
I am also not getting any water to pump. I may not have the LU in the bucket far enough. I have it to the top of the inlet holes like it shows in the book. Does that sound right?
Thanks to all who help me with my outboard addiction 😆 😆
March 3, 2016 at 11:49 am #32831Finally had time to get the video of my Carb situation posted.
Please advise if you have any ideas.
Thanks as always!!!
March 3, 2016 at 11:50 am #32832Notice at the end how much is running off of my hand…Arghhhh
March 3, 2016 at 1:58 pm #32839It seems to idle pretty good with the extra fuel, but guess it’s because it’s
expelling it. Is it a rotory valve or reed engine? Perhaps worn internals?
Also, if it was mounted on a boat leaning "back" another 12 degrees,
perhaps less gas would be blowing out.Prepare to be boarded!
March 3, 2016 at 2:04 pm #32840Somethings not right. The video doesn’t show the complete engine but I think I caught a glimpse of the mag handle and it looks quite advanced. For that engine to idle that slow the mag should be in a retarded position especially in light of the no-load in the barrel.
Maybe I’m wrong on this and someone else will chime in. I also want to check mine and see where the carb lever position is.

March 3, 2016 at 2:35 pm #32841Thanks for the responses.
I set the mag handle to close to where it says start on the hood. I have the High speed wheel set to start as well, and the speed control handle. The Low Speed jet is 1.5 turns out as stated in the manual.
If I try to bring it to a lower idle it dies at this point.
Correct, no load in the barrel, I have the prop off so water doesn’t fly all ober the place.

I agree! The throttle stop looks in the approximate correct position, but the throttle lever seems to be advanced too far for the speed the engine is running at. It should really be turning up at that position.
You mentioned the low speed needle was 1 & 1/2 turns out. What I read says it should be 1/2 turn out. It seems to be getting too much fuel from the low speed side of the carb when running, and not enough from the high speed side.
March 4, 2016 at 11:54 am #32887I took the Carb off last night and stripped it down to Parade Rest. I blew out every passage, looked at both the low and high speed needles and jets, both looked good. I also checked the Primer valve, it seals shut solid so no fuel coming from there.
The only thing I noticed was the Low speed assembly had 2 gaskets on it and both were not in the best of shape. I replaced them with a new fiber gasket I had. Could this be it…maybe?
I did not have a chance to start it back up last night because it was to late. Today is my day off so I will start it again this morning for a test.
As far as the Low speed jet adjustment goes it states in the Operating and General Instruction manual on page 6 says that it is 1 1/2 turns. I then looked at the instructions decal on top of the tank and it to says 1 1/2 turns out and then to adjust after the motor is warm and under running conditions.
I made myself a real nice test tank from an abandoned bin I found so I can have the prop on and run this motor under semi normal conditions and see better exactly what is going on. Having this tank also confirmed that I did not have the LU down far enough in the water for it to pump correctly. It does pump water quite well so that can be checked off of the list as working now.
I hope to report later today that I don’t have a gallon of fuel a minute spurting out of the throat…lol
Thanks all for the support. I do know these old beasts can be very finicky when we want them to wake from their many years of slumber.
