I recently acquired this motor and am just starting the process of determining what parts are needed for a rebuild/restoration. I’ve never done this before and am wondering where I can find parts. The spark plug wire boots are broken so I know I need those and it’s missing the spark plug cover also. Best websites for research and for parts. Thanks in advance.
October 6, 2020 at 11:31 am #217945Hi Kramm….
It’s always best if you provide the Model Number of your motor. There should be an ID plate on the transom mount with a number probably starting with 571.xxxxx
Then we can post parts diagrams and the like.
Does your motor have spark? For the wire you should use standard 7mm COPPER CORE wire available at auto parts stores. The boots can often be found cheaper at lawnmower shops. Keep in mind that if you do get ahold of a spark plug cover….the boots will need to be pretty small to fit under there.
There are a couple of different impellers used. Again I would need a model number to provide a diagram.
The carburetor is pretty typical; A Tillotson MD I believe. Be careful with the bowl gasket and you can probably re-use it after a good cleaning fo all the internals.
Those are good running well built motors made by West Bend.
October 6, 2020 at 1:08 pm #217947Yes, it is 571.58561 I don’t know if it has spark as I haven’t tried that yet. The spark plugs were broke off but I have since gotten them removed but the boots are damaged. It does turn so the motor is not seized. I’m not all too concerned about it running as it will be a display piece for me, but I’d like to get it cleaned up and looking complete.

October 6, 2020 at 10:35 pm #218003OK. I understand. It sounds like all you need is the spark plug cover? You can place an ad here in the Classifieds for free. I bet someone could help you out.
You probably have already searched Google or Duck Duck Go for Elgin Outboard Motor. Lots of reference on line; there were tons of them sold on Sears Easy Credit.
