On to new project – 1951 4443 Evinrude Fleetwin 7 1/2 HP
This motor would not go through any movement when pulling on rope. I have taken the entire motor apart. Once apart it didn’t take much to get movement out of pistons. By inspection (also had someone else inspect with much more experience) it appears that some cylinder cleaning and polishing along with pistons, it should be good to go.
Questions:
1). Where can I get the head gasket and the few other gaskets that are needed? If can’t be found, is it possible to make? If so what material for head gasket and others – where to buy?
2). Same with a few seals/o-rings needed?
3). What is the best way to clean motor body and head — sonic cleaner?? To be sure all ports are cleared out.July 15, 2020 at 6:31 pm #208694July 15, 2020 at 6:35 pm #208700July 15, 2020 at 7:10 pm #208711You can still find the head gaskets, online, or marineengine.com has some aftermarket ones… I don’t recommend trying to make a gasket.

Yes, these are significantly faster then the full gear shift 7.5’s that I have run, I have a 58 fleetwin, and a 50 & 53. Both of the neutral clutch motors are faster, the lower unit is much more streamline. I still like my 58 better. I would like to thin the herd some, so if anyone wants a 50 or 53. The 50 is more rare.
