I have found a 1952 evenrude 25 hp and a 1953 johnson 25 hp .I am wanting to buy them but I am wondering if I can get the parts to get them going, such as coils ,points ,carb kit and impeller..Where these good motors in these years…would the parts interc change between these two motors.Any info on these two motors would be appreciated..Thanks in advance
November 29, 2023 at 10:02 am #282877all the common parts should be available either from the dealer or used from shops selling parts
to maintain these oldies the Johnson maintenance bible is available on line for download a 400 + page manual that covers all maintenance aspects od RD 13-15 for the 1952 and 1953 25 hp’s
do expect to replace cracked coils ..if cracked,… condensers … impeller… points may just need a clean-up
before spending $$$$ on parts and all….. check for low compression in case it was run hot , could be just a head gasket or a major undertaking. Look/consider the general aspects … was it neglected overall or pampered for 70 years ? see a nice 5.5hp
I refurbished
check gear oil for water (GC may need a reseal) … it is all in the book !
J&E and cousins anyway…. so the Johnson book will cover what is needed carb magneto gc ph wise etc…

November 29, 2023 at 12:18 pm #282892It’s highly suggested to break up your email address with spaces or spelling out certain characters such as @ with ‘at’ to avoid the bots cruising this site from picking it up. When that happens, you open yourself up to receiving junk mail amongst other things. Just saying.
Maybe go back and edit your post if possible.

November 30, 2023 at 10:07 pm #282930This is sure to draw comments: 🙂
The 1952 models do not have any convenient connections to attach the usual 1950s OMC controls for steering, throttle, and shifting. They put those connection points on the motors in 1953 I believe. The ones without these provisions are fine provided you plan to operate by the tiller only. I learned that after buying a 1952 Johnson 25.
Welcome aboard!
