I am looking at a 1952 Evinrude Fastwin 4441.
Only ever owned a johnson QD13 but am looking for something a little bigger to push the boat.
So here is what i am looking at. Owner says the motor is free but doesn’t know if it runs. From the pictures it looks pretty no major damage other than normal wear and tear. He is asking $200 for the motor as it sits. I beleive it is a 14 hp
Tag on motor reads 4441-26132IS this a fair price?
Anything i should look for when i go to see it?
How does this motor compare to the QD13?Any input is helpful
Thank you NickApril 11, 2021 at 8:53 pm #2361871952 qd13 10hp ……………. 1951 4441 14hp
$200 US seems pricy for me check compression … gearcase for water etc… does FW turn ?? mechanically sound ?? pressure tank comes with it ?? $$$$ old tanks can leak from rusted pin holes
I shoot for max 100$ CDN 75$ US money
” motor is free.” ……….. but he is asking $200 ….. ????
why not try for an 18hp a bit younger like late 50 early 60 no more pressure tanks around 1960 + 🙂

April 12, 2021 at 5:41 am #236203I have never owned one but I would ask a lot of questions (as you are doing.) I have to wonder why there don’t seem to be too many of them in service, compared to later Fastwins. Did they also have the wrist pin bushings that were subject to wear, like ’55 and ’56 Fastwins?
Long live American manufacturing!

April 13, 2021 at 11:17 am #236292Just a couple thoughts on your question. I have a 14hp Evinrude 1952 a little down the assembly line from the one you are looking at. It is a decent outboard, Peter Hunn in his Old Outboard Book calls it the “not so fast fastwin”! It’s claim to fame is that it is the first Evinrude that has a forward reverse gear case. A very similar gear case that came on the QD Johnsons about that same time. My Evinrude is an original in nice condition, it pushes my 14′ tinie about 20mph. I also have a QD 14 10hp Johnson, it pushes my tinie about 20mph. If you are looking for more power the ’53 fastwin 15hp is way better outboard. I love’em all from that era of time.
