Hi-
ive inherited this outboard and have it running except it seems to overheat and stall. I found a NOS rubber ring (water pump) and installed it tonight but there is still no water coming out the small tube at the base of the power head (circled in red). I’m assuming there should be a stream of water coming out, am I correct? I’d love to use this motor on the lakes in Maine, but I’m at my wits end with this…any help is greatly appreciated. See attached pics.
thanks in advance!
Ben
August 13, 2022 at 8:34 pm #264338You had better hope no water comes out that tube. That is a crankcase drain. A few drops of oily fuel and air are normal. Water indicator is a slobber of droplets out of the slots about half way down the backside.

August 14, 2022 at 12:59 pm #264368Thanks Frankr! That’s exactly what I was getting. Not sure I saw much if any water coming out out of the slots, but running in a bucket gets everything wet. I think I’m going to go back in and lube the rubber ring just because it seems like a good thing to do. I guess it’s a process getting these running.
thanks again for your help

I really appreciate your help.
another question – do you ever run the premix 50:1 in your outboard? I was mixing small amount and I know I wasn’t getting it right.
The next things I’m going to check to get it running longer are points and plug gaps.
