June 16, 2016 at 6:22 pm #38416Please replace the water pump impeller and lower powerhead seal components while they are easy to get at as well….
Kind of hard to believe that nothing was spilling out of the bottom of the cylinder head, but I guess it is possible that the core plug fell out of the head while you have just been working on it….Have a look on the bench and floor, maybe it is there.
You need to replace that missing core plug inside the exhaust housing as well, perhaps the water is sneaking out through there causing the leg to get hot.June 16, 2016 at 7:08 pm #38417June 16, 2016 at 8:40 pm #38421Yes, at the top of that hole. Part number was 039139, changed to 306457
June 16, 2016 at 9:11 pm #38422304314 powerhead base gasket
306442 cylinder head core plug (you might want to order a few of these just in case you have trouble installing it)
434424 impeller and key
303355 gasket/seal for top of driveshaft/powerhead
303347 oring for top of driveshaft
303261 roll pin for top of driveshaft/seal retainer (just in case you can’t pull the top portion of driveshaft out of gearcase)June 16, 2016 at 11:28 pm #38429Diameters appear to be 0.440" and 0.825"
I hope my local auto parts store stocks a variety of these sizes. Guess I’ll find out tomorrowI had a look at the port on the cylinder head, I really don’t think water was coming out of there yet it is wide open. To me it looks like it has been dry for a while, but my experience is limited. This makes me concerned though, because if it was indeed wide open, and no water coming out, wouldn’t that indicate there’s a blockage in the cylinder head? Or purposely blocked for some reason?

You guys are great
June 17, 2016 at 12:14 am #38434I think I would pull the cylinder head.
June 17, 2016 at 12:29 am #38436It’s real hard imagining water cooling the powerhead and not exiting that wide open hole. Why don’t you just put in a new core plug and see what happens before exploring further. BTW, I’ve seen lots of them with that plug rotted out.
June 17, 2016 at 1:22 am #38441I’m a little confused, I thought we were talking about plugs on the cyl. head. The picture above with "plug here" in red, is of what? I know it’s the bottom of the powerhead, but it’s not the cyl. head, right?
