Beerman, I am confused too. apparently it is missing 2 plugs, but only one makes sense to me.
I get plugging the head, but If I plug the exhaust port, it appears that it would leave only 2 holes @ approx 5/16" diameter for the exhaust to flow through. I cant see how that works as the air intake ports are much larger than that. Are the exhaust gasses discharged elsewhere with this motor, or solely out of the exhaust tube? I am not doubting, I am asking so I can learn.

I know it’s the bottom of the powerhead, but it’s not the cyl. head, right? He is actually missing two core plugs. One on the bottom of the cylinder head, the other is the big one down inside the exhaust housing that is shown in the picture with the arrow.

Why don’t you just put in a new core plug and see what happens before exploring further. BTW, I’ve seen lots of them with that plug rotted out.I agree with Frank, don’t rip this thing apart further. Replace the core plugs, impeller, and seal components then run it again. My nickel says your problems will be solved.

That’s my plan. I’m sure the PO put in a new impeller, but I’m picking up a new one anyway just in case. Doesnt hurt to have one on hand
June 18, 2016 at 2:05 am #384962 new plugs installed from the local autoparts store. I think the cyl head plug blew out at WOT because the new one is leaking, so I think the shoulder of the bore is getting crappy. I cleaned it up the best I could but it’s still dripping, I put center punch marks all around the casting to try and swell the bore closed…we’ll see if that works
Anyway, the barrel test went well after getting it started (This motor is a Bitc* so get started, but once running, its a micro pull on the rope to fire it up again). I did not change the impeller because the head stayed cool last run…just as well, there is gobs of water coming out of the port. It is also much quieter now.
Hitting the lake in the AM. Will keep you posted

almost 8 hours of use without a hitch. No overheating and was much quieter 🙂
Shell gas (no ethanol) with Amsoil may have a difference made in starting it. only 4 pulls cold from 20 somethingThanks for your help everyone, I would not have figured it out (The head plug, probably, the exhaust plug, never)
June 18, 2016 at 11:27 pm #38548great, glad it is resolved
