This morning i took apart the prop and for the rubber hub cam out in small pieces. Any suggestions on where to find another prop? The blades on this one a rough so i think its time for a new one
October 11, 2022 at 1:31 pm #267492Many variations of the original pin drive 277095 prop used on your motor were also used on later 30, 35, and possibly 40 horse motors so locating a good used one shouldn’t be too hard.
Here’s a parts manual for a ’55 Evinrude Big Twin Electric which should mostly be the same as your RD-17 except for cosmetics and the electrical system. Evinrude and Johnson were just starting to share parts around this time so I can’t guarantee it will be identical.

maybe you can just fill the void space with some FB resin and/or mix a putty with FB filler Just use a brass drive pin.
the blade can be reshaped in a prop shop as well rehubbed if they have the rubber insert .
if not just have it rebuilt
try e-bay maybe want adds on this site

October 31, 2022 at 1:43 pm #268492If the prop is that worn due to age, maybe it’s time to look in the gearcase anyway. The clutch dog is made from soft metal and as such is the fastest wearing item in your gearcase. However, the yoke (fingers) that move the dog can wear quickly when the dog is damaged or worn.
Next is the dog and the faces of the forward and rear gears. Since the forward face of the dog wears faster, you can flip it end-to-end to get a few more miles out of it.
All the above wear points may cause a thump-thump-thump, clattering or grinding.
Check the health of the yoke pivot pin. Very rare but possible is breakage or bending of the pin.
