I am restoring a Mark 25 and was wondering what color it should be. The covers for the power head are sunset orange on the outside and Green on the inside. The power head is silver. The lower unit is white. Also, I noticed that a lot of the brackets on the power head are unfinished or plain aluminum. I looked on nymarine.ca and both green and sunset orange are available for 1955.
My questions are:
What colors is the motor supposed to be.
Are the brackets on the power head supposed to be plain or painted silver or…???
Was the sunset orange or the green correct for that year?Thank you for your help

Sunset orange and Sand Tan,( Sunset orange, side cowls and dynafloat discs,) recoil and remainder of motor sand tanI am pretty sure this would be correct. I do recall a Sarasota blue, but do not remember which year that was…

classicomctools@gmail.comJanuary 24, 2017 at 1:33 pm #51610In 1955, most of the Mark 25’s built were the traditional Mercury Green and dull aluminum. On the first production Mark 25’s were built with flat plain dynafloat covers. However, in 1955 it was available in several different color combinations. The Sunset Orange/Sand Tan, Gulf Blue/Marlin Blue, and Sarasota Blue/Sand Tan. By 1956, the Mercury Green was changed Quicksilver Green, a slightly different shade of green metallic and it was combined with Sand Tan. Other colors available in later years were Holiday Bronze/Sand Tan, Sandalwood beige/Sand Tan, Charcoal, and I have a recoil that is either Burgundy or Calvary Brown.

January 24, 2017 at 8:17 pm #51634OK..just so I am clear. I can paint the motor sand tan and sunset orange. Cool!
But is the power head and brackets still dull aluminum? Or are they supposed to be sand tan?January 25, 2017 at 4:18 am #51673sand tan.
January 29, 2017 at 3:50 pm #52015I have a ’50’s Merc and the Gold colored paint has faded. What’s the proper name for that original color?

January 29, 2017 at 7:49 pm #52049It might be the Copper that was used in the late fifties on 6 cylinders
