      Hello,

I am working on a 1955 Johnson RD17. When removing the low speed needle and and nut the bushing that the needle screws into came out. No of course i was not paying close attention and now that i am reassembling I do not know which way the bushing goes back in. One end is cupped in and the other isn’t. Which way does the cupped end face toward the powerhead? Also should this bushing be secured in place somehow and if so how do I do that?

      Thanks to all in advance.

Cupped end goes toward the packings.  Assemble the packing nut, packings, and bushing onto the needle a few turns.  Now push the whole assembly into the carb and tighten the packing nut just enough to keep the bushing from spinning.  Turn the needle in until lightly seated, then back it out 1-1/2 turns for preliminary adjustment.  Finally, tighten the packing nut enough to hold it from spinning from vibration.
