      Noticed that the water discharge had some sort of screen in it not shown in parts list.  Grabbed it with pliers and bent the screen then pulled it out.  so long I guess it may be factory – for sound deadening??

        I looked at the parts list and to me it looks like the exhaust relief baffle.

          Johnny,

          I have a copy of the 1956 Evinrude 15 HP parts manual.  I can’t see any part that looks like the screen I pulled out.  Can you let me know the page and reference number?    The only thing close to what you describe is page 8 ref. no. 97 exhaust loading tube assembly.

          Tried to post the parts manual but get an error file too large.

            That part shows up on the 1955 parts list for models 15014-15015.   Part number 304002, exhaust relief baffle, shown as #98 on pages 8 and 9.

              Thank you for identifying the exhaust relief baffle and showing that it is on the 1955 parts list .  The model number on my mounting clamp is 15016,  which corresponds to the 1956 parts list.     Also the exhaust housing part number is the same for 1955 and 1956 (p/n 376406).  Looks like the exhaust relief baffle was just deleted for 1956.

              Unless someone else knows better I will leave the exhaust relief baffle off when I reassemble the motor.
