How do you know the tank and fuel line connector are good? Will those motors stay running if you keep pumping the primer on the tank? The primer actually pumps gas directly and does not build any pressure in the tank, while the motor is dependent on pressure build up in the tank from the motor to stay running, and that comes back to the tank on the 2nd line once the motor starts. When the motor quits, if you loosen the tank cap can you hear pressure bleeding off?
You may have an air leak in one line or the other – most common place is the gas line connector where the internal O-rings get hard with age and don’t seal…or the tank diaphragm and /or gasket may leak.

July 18, 2021 at 8:45 pm #243202Hey Dave. My first time dealing with pressure tanks. Yes your probably right about an air leak. Guess Iβll look for new lines and seals. Thanks
DanJuly 18, 2021 at 8:46 pm #243203Problem is Sierra wonβt ship to Canada. Hey
July 18, 2021 at 8:48 pm #243204test tank pressure by releasing the fuel cap it should go Pssst! if air pressure did build up .
you may also consider converting to pump instead of dual hose system …easy conversion to do .

did you pull the flywheel to check for cracked coils

July 18, 2021 at 9:11 pm #243208Did not pull flywheel. Good blue spark thru 3 testing times. If I introduce fuel into the throat it runs for a burst. Or if I mist the spark plug holes it will run for a short burst.
July 18, 2021 at 10:19 pm #243213In addition to an air leak somewhere, you may have carb problems. It shouldn’t flood when you pump the primer button unless you really force it hard.
DaveJuly 19, 2021 at 6:14 am #243217redo the carb… try removing the filter in the bowl to test the engine
before installing flip it over and try to blow air (mouth) in the carb. If the needle seats properly NO AIR should flow IN the carburator. make certain the float sits level with the edge of the carb and that the float itself is not upside down.
good or not you should pull the FW and inspect the coils …. clean/touch-up the points ……do a basic* test on the condensers
* test for short… you should see infinite (open) after a short needle burst towards 0 ohms if you have an analog meter basic test does not prove the condensers are good handling 200-300V kick backs.
btw dis you download yourself a copy of the Johnson maintenance manual ?
go to MEMBERS ONLY….INNER SANCTUM….LIBRARY….GARRY SPENCER DROP BOX….down the list is a RED JOHNSON book

July 20, 2021 at 9:35 am #243337OK, well it looks as if you rebuilt the carb, did you replace the float and float valve? You mention that the engine seems to flood if you continue to pump the tank primer….Looks like you replaced the fuel/air lines on the engine as well….Is it possible you reversed the lines on the engine? If so, you are pumping fuel directly into the intake manifold. One of those pictures you posted shows cracked coils, have they since been replaced? The engine won’t run very well with those coils….
