        You can still find rebuilt 6 volt starters for older cars and farm tractors but I don’t know if you could find one for your ’56 outboard.

          Yes, I think my best bet is to hold out for a 57 bracket. Has to be one somewhere in North America. I have had an ad in classified’s for a couple weeks now.

            Is it safe to fire up an outboard with the bottom end removed. I mean like 10 seconds or so. Just to test the power head? I think yes.

              just hook a garden hose to the water tube and run it
