      After 30 years of sitting, you really should pull the flywheel to clean and set the breaker points .

        Without fine tuning, the motor may well bog down. The factory settings were for a new motor. As the motor wears, the carb settings will wander off. Besides, the initial settings were just meant to get the motor started and it is necessary to fine tune. A carb kit may help a lot too.
