A fellow club member has a 1956 Javelin. Unfortunately a previous owner painted it all white and removed the serial number tag. The freeze plug in top of the cylinder shows a serial number of 1414916 which falls into the 1956 allotment.
The hood and chrome trim are all clearly 1956 as well. However, the freeze plug only lists the numerical serial numbers with no letter code like RDE or RJE.
Another member of the club has questioned whether or not this is truly a Javelin or just a regular 30HP with a Javelin hood? Are there any other tell tale signs to confirm or deny this? I’ve always thought that the Javelin was the same as the regular motor, the only difference being the trim package.
      Thanks in advance.

You are correct sir! The trim package is the only difference. Thus, without the ID plate, any RDE could be made into a javelin of the same year.

Javelins all came with electric start so if it has manual start it is probably an RD although that could be changed too.
