I obtained my first Antique Outboard from a family friend that after hearing my story about restoring an old wooden boat that I learned to ski behind 30+ years ago thought I should have a period motor if/when I get this family heirloom back in the water. The boat is rather unique in itself as it is a Niles Craft made in Niles, Michigan and oddly enough in todays world of all information available over the internet, I cannot find any information about Niles Craft.
Sorry for the back story and onto my question. My motor is a 1956 Scott Ser# 39654695 which has a Wico FW2255 magneto. The coils are rotted out and I cannot seem to find any place to locate replacements. It would be ideal I assume to find replacement parts for not only the coils, but also the points and other dated parts of this ignition system. What information I have found about these motors does lead me to believe it might not be the easiest thing to restore and get back to working condition, but I have to say over the past year of tinkering with this motor I have grown an affection for it that will not allow me to push it aside. Any help in my efforts to restore this beauty would be greatly appreciated!

August 15, 2017 at 2:52 pm #63144Does anyone know if fuel intake is a common connection type? It looks like a single line, maybe push and twist type connection and not something I am familiar with as all of my outboards prior to this one (newer) seemed fairly universal.
August 15, 2017 at 2:57 pm #63146It is a push and twist. Mating Scott connectors are available on Ebay. There may be a Merc connector that would work but it is obsolete and I dont know much about them.
August 15, 2017 at 3:00 pm #63148If the center core of your coil is 7/16 square then omc universal coils from the 50s will work. Put the bare coils o nyur laminations. If the center core is 5/8 square getting replacements will be difficult.
August 15, 2017 at 5:51 pm #63155I did find a thread about a fix for the 7/16, but of course mine is the 5/8…..
August 15, 2017 at 6:13 pm #63156Jim – I was not able to find the connectors on ebay? After a brief search I only seem to find the a couple used fuel connectors that would be attached to the outboard itself. I was hoping to find the connectors that would go on the fuel line between the tank and the outboard. Any thoughts is maybe I am searching with the wrong key words?
August 15, 2017 at 6:19 pm #63157Mercury made 2 different fuel connectors that were attached to the tank side of the line, one was smaller than the other, the smaller one "should" fit your Scott. SO the question is, do you need the fitting attached to the tank line or attached to the motor? Having said that, I believe I have a spare carb and fuel pump for that motor that I do not need. Might even have a spare motor side fuel connector.
Let us know
Thanks
Richard

classicomctools@gmail.comAugust 15, 2017 at 6:38 pm #63159I have a spare Scott connector and a mag plate with two good 5/8 coils. connector is free but mag plate was bought on ebay.
Since the coil s typically cant be removed from the lamination as a minimum the heels would have to be identical. My mag is
a FW2325. Check your number. Possibly the whole mag plate could be swapped. It has Scot 1955 and up linkage. -
