1957 18 evinrude top seal replacement

I need some adivise for replacing the top crank seal. I have never done this before. I have the tool for removal of the seal but how far do I drive the tool ??? I rather ask before the attempt so I don’t run into problems removing it.

Screw it in fairly tightly. The deal is that it needs to wedge itself in to get a good grip on the seal.
