I picked up a CD14 awhile back and thought I would see if I can get it going. Had to pull the powerhead for the water pump and saw this little shim looking thing in the pan. Never thought a lot about it and I have a old motor all torn apart in my parts junk and saw what looked like the same thing on the intake of a old parts motor. Part number 203235. Decided to take the intake off the one I am working on and sure enough that and the screw and holder are missing! Would it have ran without it? Why would anyone remove it? I may have just got lucky and saw it laying there and investigated further! Motor has fair compression (around 70psi on each) is why I am even trying to get it going.

it should be in place otherwise the cranckcase vacum needed to pull in needed fuel from the carb will be deminished and may hamper proper operation of the engine

November 5, 2021 at 2:58 pm #249186Thanks for that information. This motor has been a project so far LOL. It would barely turn over when I picked it up so I added kroil to the cylinders and that didnt help. Decided to pull the lower unit and found that to be the problem-the driveshaft clutch was bad. At least the parts i am needing so far I either have or the ones I had to order can be used on my other project motors.

Will have to try and remember that! Already put it back in my parts motor.
