As a maintenance procedure on my 1957 35 hp Johnson I’ve used a length of thick weed eater plastic string pushed in with vice grips from the outside drain hole to clear debris that might form. A once or twice per year thing.

Happy to report I can see the light (from a flashlight). I had cleared from the outside first with a drill bit in my hand. After long soaking and I cut the straight part off a stout wire hanger and used it as a ramrod and put it on my cordless drill I have cleared the passage.
          Thanks Buc, yes approx. 1/8″
Thanks Dan great maintenance tip with the trimmer string.

Just finished clearing the drain on my ’57 Fastwin restoration. Soaked with vinegar for 2 days, then alternated between drilling with a piece of stiff wire and using the jet fixture on the pressure washer – that stuff hardens like concrete in there!

You must have gotten a little wet with the power washer!
