        I’m a big fan of the Big Twins, myself. Still own 5 of them. The Gales are equally as good as the J/E motors. They were a bit controversial because private brands were selling a good quality motor for less money that was equally as good as the J/E motors. Like Frank said, most parts are interchangeable. Pretty much everything from the powerhead base gasket on down, is identical.

          Private "label" is as old as dirt in the late 19th -20th century American manufacturing. Interchangeable parts and Thomas Registry , Hollander and its precursors allowed just about any old boy to build his "dream." Now with "just in time" and globalization the penny crunchers make a 100 million VWs that for a $40 buck build you can hack their entry keys. KISS forever!
