Starting to work on this motor. No spark. pulled the inspection cover off the flywheel, it looks good and clean in there, possibly new coils.Does have new(er) SP wires.I did notice quite a gap between the coils and the flywheel, 1/16- 1/8". Seems kinda of a big gap? Flywheel nut was not very tight at all. Gotta get a correct puller or modify mine to fit the 3 hole pattern. Will Frank’s coil locating ring work on this motor?
I would like a list of torque specs ,ignition specs etc if is available.
Probably will have to pull the powerhead as a vine had grown up into the water discharge of the lower unit got most of it out, but i think i didn’t get it all..Then a huge Hornet came flying out of there… Surprise!
I do have a parts manual for this motor.
This is supposed to be a long shaft FDL ,L of long, correct? This is a short shaft, evidently it’s been switched ?
I have a 1967 or 68 Johnson 20 hp FDL-22 parts motor ,could i use that 5′ extension and driveshaft etc, if i decide to convert to a longshaft ?
      Thanks ,Jim

        Puget,

Franks tool will work on any OMC universal magneto to locate the coils.

Flywheel nut torque is 40-45ft lbs.

I have a service manual for my 18 Evinrude, but nothing I can scan to you.

The mag plates are basically the same, from 1.5hp up to 40hp
