Hey shermdog,
Did your motor come with the wiring harness? The female end (where it plugs into the motor) will have 3 holes for prongs. I will try to post a picture later.July 2, 2016 at 12:14 pm #39448July 2, 2016 at 12:31 pm #39453if this is the solenoid cover and solenoid you bought for your FDE-11, you bought the incorrect one. that solenoid is for a 6 volt system. it has the bump start button on the bottom. the 12 volt solenoids do not have the bump start button.
also, the cover should be like the white one pictured below.
while the decal and color on the cover of the solenoid is not important for function, you will want to get a 12 volt solenoid for the FDE-11.
July 2, 2016 at 12:59 pm #39455also, I believe I have a faceplate for you but the rubber gasket around it will need to be replaced. peter at http://www.nymarine.ca has them. let me know if you’re interested. we could work it into a trade if you’re interested in trading the 6 volt set up you have.
July 2, 2016 at 4:16 pm #39463Haven’t got it yet. But the picture may still be on south bend Craigslist. I’ll consider ur offer

Here’s the Craigslist ad for the one he’s got coming.
http://southbend.craigslist.org/bpo/5646946785.htmlJuly 2, 2016 at 8:17 pm #39483Yep. that’s a 6 volt solenoid set up. That one will fit the 1954, 1955 and 1956 omc electric start systems. He’ll need to swap it out with a 12 volt solenoid.
July 2, 2016 at 11:17 pm #39495That being the case I think I will use it on the1956 javelin I’m also going to rebuild but I would be interested in the faceplate if we can agree to price
July 3, 2016 at 2:35 am #39506Yes! That is exactly what you need for the ’56 javelin. Keep it for that motor for sure. Joe Poole in Georgia still sells the little dash plate emblems for the ’56 electrics on his site. I think there’s a link on this site. He’s a GREAT guy to deal with!
I’ll try to pm you a few pics of the plates tomorrow.
ScottJuly 3, 2016 at 2:58 am #39510here’s a pic of the dash plate you would need for the ’56 javelin. as I said, joe poole sells them. not cheap but pretty cool NOS part. http://www.fergusonpoolemarine.com
