Hey friends, I have yet another Johnson question.. Its a 1957 5 1/2 hp seahorse. I am disassembling the carburetor, which is no biggie, BUT. How do I get the glass fuel filter to let go?! I have the nut screw/Clamp off. should it just kinda turn and come straight down? It’s sat for 25 years so im sure it is a ton of gunk, but I don’t want to force it and break the glass! maybe add just a little heat?
Im sorry what? I’m trying to get the Fuel filter off, but the glass is stuck, there is a ton of old fuel and oil in the filter, but I can’t get the glass bowl to let go.
you can try some carb cleaner around the rim then warm water soaking will drop it .. anyway get the carb out to refurb it and check the float etc… you will need to clean the inside metallic filter also by soaking it in carb cleaner followed by air blasts .
sometimes after soaking a gentle wack with a small piece of wood will loosen it of gasket … work slow…. be patient  nothing is holding it in but dried gunk
Thank you for the help! I finally got it! 25 years of sitting the oil and gas become the incredible Hulk super glue! Finally got it apart! I was scared to break to crack the glass, didn’t know if it unscrewed or just pop out. But it’s free!
