Hello! I am new to the forum and look forward to learning as much as I can about classic outboards. I started a rebuild on a 1957 Mark 55E and it’s going well except the flywheel assy nut is rusted and I am going to have to get creative on removing the nut. I am curious on the nut size as I might have to use a bite bit to back it off. It is so rusted and rounded I am not able get an accurate size and I can’t find any reference to size in the manuals. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

clean well with a pick to get to the bottom then use a 6 point socket they are rounder on top . that is why you need ti clean well to get to the HEX.

the top of the nut has self locking nylock then the Hex below, dig and scrape to see if there is enough hex. cant tell from the pic.

Is that why I have a socket with the O.D. ground down? I know I did it for something.

That’s a good idea on reducing the OD of the socket. By heat and force it’s coming off 🙂
