Hello all, just started a 57 seaking by gale. Has great spark rebuilt the carb but it stalls when put in gear unless really up in rpms. I did a compression test and was shocked only 60psi on each! I was expecting at least 75psi. This motor is super low hours. Am I wasting my time? It has all new ignition and wires. Could I have missed something in the carb? Did a total soak, blow out including Welch plug. I redid seals and pump in the lower unit as well as lower crank seals. Thanks Dave

I really don’t know unless something is binding in the lower unit. Could be the shock absorber broken and winding up on itself under load.November 20, 2017 at 1:01 am #67660November 20, 2017 at 1:14 am #67661It does start very easily and idles well. When I put it in gear it dies after about 30 seconds unless I up the throttle. Before I put it on the boat and adjusted the high speed it didn’t do this. If I richin the high speed it will run in gear. I was so taken back by the low compression that maybe I just need to go thru the carb again and don’t worry about the compression?

November 20, 2017 at 1:29 am #67665Initial settings 1 1/2 low speed and 1 high speed out from lightly seated like all the other Omc motors i have done.

So, it dies after 30 seconds when you put it in gear, right? Not immediately, right? But it will run at high speed if you set the high speed richer, right? Sounds like a carburetor or fuel supply issue
November 20, 2017 at 1:50 am #67670I’m beginning to think the same thing. I did a clean out on this tank and perhaps I didn’t get it as clean as I had thought.
November 20, 2017 at 1:54 am #67671Sorry didn’t answer your question fully. Yes it idles in gear awhile then dies. This has the tank on top and I’m thinking I am getting stuff working loose
