Buc; your rebuilt carburetors look so freaking squeaky clean…..better than new. So; in light of that….it would be hard to imagine there being some other vent that is plugged up in there. Not after you’ve cleaned it….NOPE!
All that said; I have encountered other (OMC) carbs that leak out the throat and other places because of a plugged bowl vent.
September 9, 2023 at 9:45 pm #280419There’s only one vent that I’ve seen on the carb, and it’s “wide open”, as that’s
the one the gas keeps blowing out of. This carb originally had a “push button”
bowl drain that someone omitted, hence, plugged off. I did the same thing
with the 7.5 Elgin and it worked fine…… and I really don’t see how that
could be causing my problem anyhow.Prepare to be boarded!

Often these things are a result of someone making an error, part, gasket,
on wrong, wrong part, a “modification” !!!! Makes it difficult to find because
its not something you would have any experience with or be in any manual.
TubsA "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
September 17, 2023 at 6:46 pm #280682The new needle and seat from the Discount Marine carb kit seems
to have solved the problem with gas blowing out the bowl vent
when it felt like. The new needle is pretty sloppy in the seat bore
compared to the old one, but it seems to work.If the weather holds, I may get the motor back out on the lake
after I get the rewind spool, air silencer, and hood back on…..
should be a little quieter and “cooler” looking.I didn’t have any GPS, but I’d say this 12 hp is pretty “zippy”.
Thank you West Bend. The reverse lock, small spring, is either broken, or stretched
out beyond all hope. There’s two larger springs that the West Bend
parts manual says are something to do with the reverse lock system,
but for the life of me, I can’t tell how it works.
Anyway, one doesn’t want to use reverse unless your at a slow, slow
idle, and / or, have your hand on the motor to keep it from popping
out of the water!
It does not look like a fun job to tear that system apart…. maybe
this winter.Prepare to be boarded!
