Hi.  I’m looking for a suitable replacement for the rubber hood seal for my 1963 Johnson qd24.  Has anyone here made something work for a replacement? I’ve been looking at the Evinrude V4 stuff they sell online.  Might be able to make that work but thought I’d consult the experts first. The mice have mine chewed up.  Thanks for any help.
      Brian.

aside from OEM   you can  split a  proper  sized rubber fuel hose lenghtwise  or you have  various sized  ” door” trims on Amazon than  can be fitted  around the edge .

here is one example… if you do order  check thesizes because pictures  are misleading a bit.   I have used some  on my  Johnson CD face plate and  on a  Mercury 4hp

it locks in place but a dab of Goop holds it  forever …almost  🙂

I’ve done several of them on six horse motors but allow yourself lots of time to do them. The original staples have to be removed and straightened and holes drilled in the new seal for the staples which get reused. The new seal wont lay flat on the hood and will require some gluing after the staples are installed. Lots of small clamps will hold it in place while the glue sets. You have to be extra careful especially if the hood has fresh paint on it so it doesn’t get scratched.

Another source for all kinds of rubber seal material is Grainger. It will take some research to find a good replacement with dimensions that will work.
