Trying to remove gear box on my 1963 Gale/Viking 5hp twin.. How do I disconnect the shift shaft?  I am used to newer ones with upper leg coupler access..

Pull the powerhead off.  There are probably more bolts holding it on than you think.  That’s what I found anyway when I previously worked on the Gale Buccaneer version of your motor.  Watch the key/tab piece for the throttle gear on the port side of the motor when you lift the powerhead.  Don’t let it get stuck with the rubber piece.  Also, disconnect the correct fuel line.  Once the powerhead is off, then you will see the linkage to undo.
