Just picked up a 1964 Evinrude 28HP, which is my first antique OMC motor with electric start. Starts and runs like a champ, good compression etc.
Looking around at 50’s Evinrudes and Johnson, I have always noticed that the solenoid is always mounted in a junction box on the transom, and that the start, kill and choke switches are all mounted on the dash.
When I popped the hood, all of the electrics seemed to be jammed in front of the carburetor, a kill toggle on the dash, and a manual choke. Is this the way it was done in 1964?
Marine Engine.com doesn’t show any electrical components before 1972, so I had no reference number for any control box parts.
If any knowledgeable people on this year Evinrude could take a look at the attached picture, and let me know what s going on, and what parts would be needed to put it back to stock, it would much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob D
