Looking for a gear case replacement due to ice damage in the area under the impeller plate.
Would anybody know what other model gear cases would bolt up? From what I have researched so far, the case for the 60’s 28HP looks like a one engine HP only case.
If this is true, this would really limit my search, and possibly of finding a case.
Thanks,
Bob DAugust 22, 2023 at 11:12 am #279528Really? I know there are differences between the 28/33 housings and the 40hp housing due the the complicated water pump on the 40hp. But, I would think that the 28/33 gearcases would be interchangeable, along with the later model 40hp gearcases that used the 33hp midsection.
I’m “guessing” that the 30-35hp gearcase assemblies from the 50s would fit as well.
Keep in mind that I have said “gearcase assemblies”.. The complete units will bolt up, but there may be some internal differences. I will have to look in the parts books to see just what you are referring to….

Deleted the wrong picture.

Don, I was hoping to find a 28 or 33HP empty case, and swap my gears and shafts out etc, but the 33 case has a different pinion gear / bearings etc. I guess the engineers beefed it up with the extra HP. I’m pretty sure an entire 33 would bolt up, but again that’s going to be pricey.
The hunt continues. I’ll put an inquiry in the wanted section, and see what our members have.
Thanks again,
