I hope you’re starting with the motor in a barrel of water, or the motor on a boat, IN the water. Don’t ever try to start it dry, on a work bench or something like that. You’ll quickly destroy what might be left of the water pump.

Put a couple of thimble-fulls of gas down the open throat of the carburetor and try to start the motor. If it tries to run for a few seconds and then quits, cleaning the carb is a MUST-do.

Listen to Bill, don’t even attempt to start the engine out of the water….  You will have a big mess if that rubber impeller disintegrates.

I definitely did the water for the lower end.

        I don’t even understand the question below…

“you did the impeller yes ????”

Please tell me what I need to do for that.

My son-in-law and I are taking off the carburetor and realized that we need to remove the flywheel to do that, so I am gonna buy the puller and do that.  I am planning to do what the fellow in the video did and soak it all in acetone.

        Any more advice?

Where can I get new hoses?  The hoses on this thing broke when I tried to remove them.

What about the impeller?  I did try to start with the lower end in water.
Also, where can I buy hoses for this?

Listen to Bill’s advice.  I am somewhat confused about the glass bowl you mentioned, what/where is that?  The primer bulb is a necessity, installed inline with the arrow pointing towards the engine.  Perhaps your primer bulb is installed incorrectly, or just not working, so the carb isn’t filling with fuel/oil.

Let us know what happens when you prime the carb throat with a little fuel/oil.   D

Here is a picture of the device.  I realize it has some kind of screen on it.

              See attached.

Don’t know what the heck that home built “rube goldberg” set up could be for.  Are there wires coming out of it?  If so, where do they lead to?

As it’s not connected to anything and just in
the boat, I don’t think you’ll ever know what
uncle Don’s intended use was for that device.
It appears he made an effort to water proof it
however water can still enter through the
                  switch lever.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

It was connected to the back of the boat on a plastic housing of some sort.

Ok so in order to get the carburetor off, I need to remove the flywheel.  I watched the videos that you sent, and I got the tools needed like the strap wrench and bolt puller.  But I cannot get the stupid flat-head bolts (3 of them) off the top of the flywheel.  I have tried everything but heat.  Tapping with a hammer while turning, wd40, grinding down my screwdriver to fit more sugly, everything.

                      Any advice?
