In place of the high speed nut and needle on this motor it has a solid brass threaded plug about 3 inches long threaded into the carb bowel. It is long enough to stick out a hole in the lower cowling where there is marking to adjust a needle. I can post a picture tomorrow. What is it and why no needle? Is this an original part? It looks like one.

It is a pin that the slow speed needle knob snaps onto. A link goes from the knob to a lever on the slow speed needle itself. In prior years, there was an adjustable high speed needle and a long packing nut, which was replaced by the long plug you are looking at.

That linkage must be missing. So no high speed needle?

I can see that rig in my mind, but maybe I got it backwards. Anyhow, it has a fixed high speed jet, right? Look for it deep in the hole where a high speed needle normally would be.

I see ok thanks for the diagram, yea I think I have seen one of those before. I will check tomorrow to make sure the high speed jet is there.
