I’ve had a number of OMC carbs lately that have dried up clogs (mostly motors that have not been run for many years), and a couple had the coating on the float flaking off so float soaks up gas and sinks – ethanol in the gas attacks the coating. Any carb I have apart now with a cork float gets a coating of clear, hot fuel proof, model airplane dope to seal it and make it ethanol resistant, just in case someone gets one of my motors and doesn’t know any better. I agree the OMC coils are shot if they are original. I now always keep a couple new Sierra ones on hand.

I’m sure this photo looks familiar to a lot of you:

Those coils are about as close to a smoking gun as you’ll find.

My guess is it means a low use motor.

Even looks like the original condensers are present too. I bet that flywheel was fun to remove 😀

Actually that flywheel came off with a cheapie bolt puller fairly easy. The photo was a ’59 35 Lark that had been left in a garage since 1976 when the owner died, and yes the original points and condensers were there – I changed all of them. A 1961 40 Lark I’m working on now was a bear to get the flywheel off until I bought the OMC puller. With that and the air impact wrench on it, with only 50 pounds of air on the wrench it immediately got the flywheel loose – don’t know when it was last run, but the coils looked same as the photo of the 35.

A ’61 Lark, huh? Nice old motors. I actually had a really nice low hours copy, myself. I sold it a few years ago.
              I’ve had a ’58 and a ’59 Lark in the past, too.
