Wow….looking at that I feel pretty lucky. I still wish I could figure out how this happened though. Was like this when I bought it, and I did not find anything loose in the cylinder.
Wannabe’s damage looks more like a minor overheat, or perhaps a light oil mix, than something getting jammed in there. I’m glad the cylinder is OK, be sure to check the new ring end gaps before assembly.
I received the rings for this project today. I have 2 Johnson books, one is 30hp on up and the other cuts off at 10hp. I have nothing with my FD 20 specs in it. Are these specs correct.
Ring end gap 0.007-0.017
Connecting rod bolts 180 – 186 inch pounds
crank case halves,
center screws 162 to 168 inch pounds
outer screws 150 to 170 inch pounds
cylinder head 216 to 240 inch pounds
Exhaust cover 60 to 84 inch pounds
flywheel 60-64 foot pounds
When breaking in the new rings, should I increase the oil ratio in the gas?
I would mix at 16:1 for break in. Again, please be sure to measure the cylinders/ring end gaps/piston ring clearances etc before assembly. If you plan to use the Gel seal for assembly, please read those directions thoroughly prior to assembly as well…
