Recently purchased this motor . While running in the test tank it really wasn’t spitting water out of the little discharge holes above the LU . Nothing near what my non-folding 3 hp Lightwin does .. Looking at the impeller it looks in really good shape . Do these folders just not spit like the regular motors do ?

bucket testing could generate  lots of  churning and bubbles causing  less water to be pumped and sometimes overheating… are you comparing both motors under the identical conditions ??

……how the engine on the lake ?    is theengine getting hotter than normal

Well, there is a little grommet in the folding joint that helps seal the water pick up, not hard to check and see if it is present. I don’t really think there is and difference in cooling outlet performance between the folding/rigid models. It may be that it is time to replace the water pump impeller and check the housing for wear.

The grommets are in place . I have a new impeller. This is the old one ..

Well the picture is a little dark, and the impeller is still in the housing, but the housing “looks OK”. Have you replaced the impeller with a new OEM piece? There is also a little air bleed hole at the top of the housing that needs to be clean. Is this a fresh or salt water engine? You mentioned the grommet in the folding joint is OK, correct?

I just got this motor so not sure where it’s been run . I suspect fresh water from the looks of it . I installed a new impeller and cleaned all the passages . The grommets look good where it folds together . Maybe when I ran it before I didn’t tighten the foot on as well as I should and it lost a little flow ?
Anyway I tested it again and it’s spitting water out nicely now . That was good to see .
I think we ok now ..Thanks guys ..
