I recently picked up a 1966 6HP Chrysler Outboard model 6601. Starts and runs fine with one issue – something is wrong with the water pump. Watched Chrysleroutboarddude’s video and took off lower unit and inspected impeller which appears fine. Looks like there may have been gasket or ring of some sort on the top outside housing which contains the impeller (but Chrysleroutboarddude’s did not show one). Its where the drive rod enters the impeller housing – should there be something there???. Again impeller looks good but motor gets very hot and stalls. Where does the warm water exit the motor after cooling the engine – I see no water exist hole anywhere….Any input on what else to look at please let me know.

Also Anyone know where I can get parts for this outboard and a copy of the parts schematic for that model? Thanks

You can cobble something up to spin the driveshaft with a drill in a bucket of water (lower unit removed of course) and see just how well it pumps.

You may have a blockage in the copper tube going to the powerhead;  or a blockage in the powerhead itself.  Is this a salt water motor?

This PDF is for a 1970; close as I can come.  It says Sea King which were made by Chrysler during those years.  Probably similar.

Here are a couple more;  including a genuine Chrysler Service model for your engine.

Any idea where the water is supposed to exit after passing through the powerhead for cooling?
