Is that the one I saw 2 years ago when I stopped by? I really do like those little bikes from back in the days. That is a dandy!! Super fun to scoot around on too.

That brings back memories, That guy has pushrods correct? Ours did & we had no idea how to set them. Tell us more about the parts search & actual build. Looks like a SL model with the swept pipe. I had a 350 SL which was 324cc motor. I ported, polished, added a 450 carbs set & bored to 368cc kit.
It was too hot for the dirt. It would bury a knobby down to the hub in the sand, very fast too as I added 10 teeth to the rear sprocket from I have no idea. Just centered it & welded it to the stock one. Had a ball with it. Oh rejetted doun 3 steps on idle & 2 on the main jet. Back then I would ride on the back wheel as long as the road was good. You bring back great memories getting cacti in the back screaming across the desert. I wore leathers & cheated!!! What fun!!
P.S. did you split the cases too? We would do that to keep the cam chain with no masterlinks. No, actually this is one is the overhead cam. I believe the trail 90’s of that year were the pushrod motors. They went overhead cam I believe in ’68 or ’69.
Parts search is still pretty easy. Ebay has roughly 100 pages of parts listings. Unfortunately, a lot of parts are only available off shore. It looks like I don’t really have a need for a parts bike, so that is why I’m going to fix it up too. I won’t be spending near as much on it though.
I did split the case and go completely through the bottom end. All new bearings and kickstarter return spring inside, plus new alternator and all new ignition components.December 8, 2015 at 11:31 am #28222quote Hugh:Is that the one I saw 2 years ago when I stopped by? Finally got it going and rode it with two different engines on it. I had to pull the cylinder head back off the rebuilt one, because the piston had a small spot on the crown, that was too high and it hit the cylinder head. Nice loud rattling noise while it ran too. So, I added another shim in under the head and problem solved.
By the way, how come you’re selling a bunch of your parts? ❓
December 8, 2015 at 1:03 pm #28226Well I just had way to many parts. 8 years ago when I got into this hobby, I was buying everything I could get. My interest is down to just the ones I really like. All the other’s and their parts can go. That is giving me more room to organize things. I had 65 outboards and 7 boats a year ago. Now about 30 motors and 5 soon to be 3 boats. Age is a factor too. Can’t keep working on boats and trailers, too hard on me. Need to stick with the outboards. I have restored 6 mopeds and a couple of scooters, too hard on me anymore also. Getting up and down takes a toll on me. I still have one Moped to get going this winter.

December 8, 2015 at 6:40 pm #28238Very cool! That was my first bike. The kickstarter shaft was broken so I had to bump start it every time. I think the Chinese are still making that motor…
LarryDecember 8, 2015 at 10:44 pm #28248My first bike was the CL-100, which is basically the successor of this one. I restored it, when I was 17. 🙂
