I am having trouble with the electronic shift. The boat will not go into forword when I am trying to dock it. It also jumps out of forward gear when I am taking off. I have undone the shift connector and cleaned the the connector blades.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Does anyone know of a repair shop in Missouri that works on old outboards? I have the boat at the lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

      thank you.

You have to use the correct Johnson gear oil or you will have problems. Also bad if water leaks into the gear case. First thing I’d do is change the gear oil and see what comes out.

Second thing you want to do is check the voltage at the blue & green wires where they go down to the lower unit. Slide the rubber sleeves back to access the terminals and connect your meter to them without disconnecting them. Should show near battery voltage on green when in forward and on blue when in reverse. If you do not get the voltages, check all wiring. A common problem is the shift switch in the remote control ($$$$).

A bit of warning: Never allow battery voltage to get to both blue and green at the same time while running. Doing that puts it into forward and reverse at the same time. and will bust something.
