Hello all, Just purchased my first Mercury, I have always been an OMC guy so I have a question regarding this Merc. It’s a 1968 9.8hp serial# 2510518. I have a cracked cover on the fuel pump and the replacement pump part number is 89977A1 according to marineengine.com. My concern is it looks nothing like the pump I have now and the pictures aren’t really detailed to see if it will work. Looking for some insite or advice. Thanks Dave

Is this the link you were looking at? http://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercu … p-assembly

The pump that you list is an aftermarket pump that you can use to replace the original pump, but it is far from original. I actually have one on a 58 Fleetwin….. (I am contemplating putting it back to pressure tank), but it works on the fleetwin. Did you look on e-bay or place a WTB add on our site.

            quote Dave Bernard:

I agree. These don’t tank much pressure, they break due to someone not assembling it correctly or attempting to get the carburetor off and putting too much force on it.
