Some photos of someone’s properly assembled motor showing those linkages should help a lot. That with an exploded view of the proper areas from Marineengine should greatly reduce that time. My 1972 Sportwin is pretty rough andraft a bit cobbled so probably not the best example. I will post pictures of it though if you need a specific area and think it will help.

April 20, 2017 at 8:54 pm #56433Just a quick note. The motor is in the ‘locked ‘ position when the motor is in neutral and reverse. It automagically ‘unlocks ‘ when it is put in forward. The tiller handle also folds down when you release the button under the tiller handle.
April 20, 2017 at 9:24 pm #56436I can’t find any good photos of the linkages but the choke rod snaps into the linkage on top of the carb and the springy mixture needle screws into the front of the carb. The mixture needle should also have a spring and washer on it.
Here’s a photo of the ’66 Sportwin after removing the side covers. The ’72 long shaft Johnson is donating needed parts for the Evinrude project!
April 20, 2017 at 10:39 pm #56443What parts does the evinrude need that are still good on the Johnson? I’m sure the long shaft Johnson has aggravated the mount issues….

I’m sure the long shaft Johnson has aggravated the mount issues….The shift lever and T stat cover so far are from the Johnson as will the mag plate, flywheel, carb, and prop. The port side cover was badly cracked from when the motor was thrown into the dumpster but I managed to straighten and weld it up. Surprisingly, both of these motors had unbroken top mounts in great condition! ☺
April 21, 2017 at 6:02 pm #56489Looks like my Sportwin’s done for… Really bad corrosion in the intake and cylinders badly scored… If anyone needs parts, this is a great parts motor.
April 21, 2017 at 9:07 pm #56502Also looks like the intake and carb were cracked. I think it was dropped at some point. I’ll strip it for parts and throw away the powerhead, but the lower unit is in decent shape so I’ll keep that, the shrouds, and some misc pieces
