      Well actually you are expanding on what I was saying. So, let’s clear it up. The system is designed to go into forward gear when the switch is turned off. But not instantly. It is designed to make that shift after the engine coasts to a stop. The shift diodes allow the alternator to supply voltage to the shift switch as long as the flywheel is spinning. When it stops spinning, no more voltage to the shift switch and the lower unit quietly goes into forward. On the other hand, if it is not functioning as intended it will instantly go into forward when the key is switched off. That is a bit un-nerving to the operator, and the reason for those confusing diodes.
