….well after much sweat I finally got the king pin to start moving with some BFABI (brute force and bloody ignorance).

I was going to soak the whole assembly in diesel but instead I’ve squirted more oil and WD40 down the pin and I’ll have another go tomorrow…at least it’s started moving. The blow torch helped break up the nylon bushing around the king pin.
…in the process BFABI I broke the tiller handle off.

Question -is it possible to weld the tiller handle back on? Is this cast aluminium, will it weld or any suggestions for fixing the tiller arm?

turned off?July 19, 2016 at 9:35 pm #40522Thanks I’ll get a bottle of acetone (or borrow Mrs) and give it a go.
July 19, 2016 at 9:36 pm #40523…any suggestions for how to fix the tiller arm?
July 21, 2016 at 7:15 am #40619I’ve found a welder who says he can weld the tiller, which I think is caste aluminium. I put a mix of gear oil and acetone down the king pin and it is starting to loosen but still tight and not coming off completely. The bottom nylon bushing on the king pin has broken up (maybe the torch or acetone) and I’ve managed to get parts of that out from around the king pin which has helped loosen it further. The steering friction adjustment screw is also loosening so some progress. so far total refurb spend is 0 but a few hours sweat and tears.

July 23, 2016 at 6:03 pm #40756….well I finally got the King pin out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2eD4l1JKMQI cut an extra deep notch in the seized steering friction adjustment bolt, got that out, tried a set up with a car jack (which didn’t work) heated it, bashed it and eventually got the pin out. …but I broke the tiller arm BUT I found a local guy says he can try and weld that for me, so I might be getting somewhere.
July 24, 2016 at 7:13 am #40800quote betty ann bernardd:check EBAY for the parts. may be cheaper. Thanks for the suggestion, I did find some parts in eBay but as I’m in ireland and they are in Wisconsin the postage is a killer, more than the engine is worth, so I have to go the "mend and make do" route to get this thing serviceable. I got the king pin out in the end, just the tiller arm to fix now, them I’m ready for field tests!! Best R.
