I have a 1971 Mercury 110 9.8hp and need to remove the power head. I have the 6 bolts down on the bottom holding the power head on, but, I can’t wiggle that bugger loose to remove it. HELP with any suggestions, please?

Someone might have used adhesive on the gaskets.  I have had a couple be quite a bear to remove.

You can try putting the 1/4_28 nuts back on a couple of the six studs and thread them on so they are flush with the stud but still not tight.  Take a brass punch and hammer and give them some taps.

Then also you can try to get a small  wedge  (small screwdriver etc)  started at some point at the base of the powerhead and see if you can get the gasket to break free.  Usually once you get even a small gap….it will get a lot easier from there.

No wedges, no bigger hammer, no prying tools. These aluminum castings can’t take the ham-fisted approach. Loosen the hold down nuts and bang on the starboard side of the engine with your HAND until it frees up. In my opinion the gasket between the power head and the drive shaft housing is the problem. My advice is after the lower unit has been removed which ensures that the drive shaft is not seized in the crankshaft.
