Took motor off to repair transom. It seems to have basically the same mounting pattern as current BRP motors in the size range (http://files.websitetoolbox.com/40622/637072).

But (see pic) the mounting holes are in separable "clamp assemblies" held on with tape in the pic). It seems the idea is that these can be fastened to the boat and then the motor dropped onto them and secured with "lockbolts."

But note that there are also threaded holes (visible just below blue tape markers) for another pair of 1/2" screws ("transom bolts") in the "stern brackets." These were not installed in the rig as I got it, or apparently ever. Do they need to be? I think the motor could move around a little without them as the "lockbolts" fit rather loosely in their recesses.

Bolts into those threaded holes in the stern brackets are not required, never have seen them actually used….So, go ahead and move the outer brackets up a hole if you want. I’m guessing those threaded holes were only used in high performance applications….

Just remember, all holes drilled through the transom must be perfectly sealed to keep moisture out of the transom core. Those extra screws are optional. If the template is precisely followed, the motor will be held securely. If you’re doing off shore powerboat racing, extra screws might be a good idea. . . 😀

Those extra holes were uses to secure the motor in the shipping carton when new. Not used to secure motor to transom

That makes sense, although the parts listing does show them as "0354101 – Transom Bolt, 6 Inch" for $26.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a transom drilled for them, which is why I asked……

Ah, that makes sense, thanks Frank!
