I got this motor about a month ago and just started working on it. I’m not that familiar with the lockout setup but this one isn’t working as it should. When I put it in gear none of the levers move, nothing engages, to prevent the recoil from turning. The spring is just loose and isn’t contacting anything to force a lever to move. I’ve tried different things but nothing is working. Anybody got a picture or explanation handy? 🙂
online photo sharingJune 19, 2016 at 6:48 pm #38609OK, just looks like the lock out spring is misinstalled, there should be spring tension forcing that arm into the recoil. Simply remove the bolt holding the black lock out arm and find where the right side (in your picture) of the spring should be positioned on the block so the spring tension forces the arm into the recoil…
Be sure to get that grey lock out cam/lever behind the black lock out lever before bolting the lock out lever back down. So, when in neutral, the vertical shift lockout arm will push the grey cam against the black lock out lever, overcoming spring tension, forcing the lock out lever out of the recoil. The vertical shift interlock arm will be out when in either forward or reverse, allowing the spring tension to push the black lock out lever into the recoil, jamming it.June 19, 2016 at 7:45 pm #38611Ok fleetwin thanks. That’s about as good as an explanation I could have hoped for. I think I got it, it seems to be working fine now. The only thing is, it seems like the point on the gray, lower lever should be longer because it seems to have a tendency to flop outside the black lever when shifting to neutral. That may have been what caused this in the first place. But thanks again for your (always) clear and thorough explanation of things!
