I am trying to get a 1978 Stinger back to life. I installed a trim and tilt the other day. Cleaned it up and got it running well. But as it ran I noticed it had no tell tale an no water coming from the exhaust relief ports. I seem to remember some water. From these ports from my 75 hustler. I may need a new impeller but how should I trouble shoot this problem?

Well, it is normal not to see any water coming from the exhaust relief outlets on this engine.
But, you surely should be seeing water coming from the cooling telltale. Nine out of ten times this is usually just caused by debris stuck in the plastic outlet nipple. Use some needle nose to compress the plastic fingers on the plastic nipple so it can be pushed out of the lower pan. Once the nipple is out of the pan, the plastic fingers will move away from the telltale hose so I can be removed easily from the nipple. Look inside the nipple passage, it is probably plugged with dirt. Restart the engine with the nipple removed to allow any other debris to come out of the hose. Blow backwards through the hose with compressed air if water doesn’t come out of the hose with the nipple off, this will dislodge any debris that might be stuck in the plastic elbow on the exhaust manifold. Don’t try to unthread that plastic nipple from the exhaust cover, it will probably just snap off.

Yup your right Fleetwin it was completely blocked. Too late to re-test tonight. I will test it again tomorrow and re-post. Thanks!
