      I have what the owner thinks is a 1978 Mariner 8. I am trying to find the S/N of this motor. There is a tag on the transom clamp that reads 647 S 35430.
      When I try to look that up for parts etc, I see no listing for a s/n in that format. Where is the S/N located?
      I am trying to find a service manual for it?

        OK…I think I found that this motor is a 1971-1972 Model P165 8A. built by Yamaha. Seems I was looking at Mercury.
        Are there any manuals out there for this motor? I checked ebay but didn’t find one.
        Anyone have the service manual?

          I’ve got a Haynes manual that goes back to ’76. Covers the 8A, which is what I think you have. My big Intertec bible says Mariner started in ’74, so I’m guessing your motor is newer than that ? If you’re interested in the manual, let me know ?

            According to what I have found, this motor is a ’71 or ’72 (According to the 647 number). The owner thinks it is from 1980. Let me know what you want for the manual. You can email me at brauscher@sbcglobal.net.
