First of all, if 1982 makes this an antique, then I’m an antique!
Picked up this very well cared for Evinrude 15 tiller, E15RCNC. Grabbed one of my fuel tanks and line and started to plug it in and I realized it wouldn’t fit. See photo.
I’m a relative newbie to outboard motors. Didn’t realize there might be different sizes of these fuel line connectors? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Matt

antique yes a bit but 1950s and back fit the description better 🙂

June 30, 2025 at 5:34 pm #297778Yes, different outboard parent companies use different connectors, meaning a Honda connector won’t fit into a Johnson connector, but an Evinrude connector would work with a Johnson one, assuming both connectors are either for pressurized or non pressurized systems. Your 1982 Evinrude 15hp uses a fuel pump, (meaning it’s a non-pressurized system – the common system nowadays) so a regular OMC fuel line connector should work fine, as it looks to me like the fitting on the motor is normal for that era of Evinrude. The end on your fuel hose is likely for a different brand of outboard. If you opt to simply switch out the fuel line fitting, not get a whole new fuel hose assembly, then putting a little oil on the new fitting should help it fit into the fuel line with less struggling. Just don’t forget that hose clamp so the new fitting doesn’t slide off!

July 3, 2025 at 10:23 am #297891Your fuel line has a metric connector used by Yamaha and some Mercurys. Looks same as Johnson/Evinrude connectors, but bigger fuel port. Read the fine print on the package when you buy a replacement connector to be sure you are getting the right one. The factory connectors are best. Copies from China are Junk. Aftermarket Attwood and Sierra connectors are OK, but not as good as factory. There are also connectors made for different diameter hose (5/16 and 3/8). Most are 5/16th. You have to buy the hose clamp separate.
