I have a 1989 mercury on a bass tracker I bought and I want to change the impeller, I loosened up the four bolts holding on the lower unit and can’t figure out for the life of me how the shift rod is connected, any mercury mechanics out there that can help me pleeeaaase! 😯

look under the carb , unhook from lever , and rod comes out with the foot …

There is a washer that will fall out, be sure to put it back on the shaft

You may need an extended long-nose pliers to assemble that back together because the carb is in the way.
